Announcing deprecation of support for TLS versions 1.0 and 1.1

Although our systems have long defaulted to TLS 1.2 or 1.3 versions, it has still been possible to use older versions of TLS in order for us to support older devices. We recommend that our customers always keep devices in the latest software version. It is highly recommended that automatic updates are enabled.

By upgrading the oldest Tosibox devices at least to version 3.3.8, customers can ensure these devices still continue to function, although there is no technical support available. The change shall take place on June 1, 2025.

Removing support for TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 is critical to safeguarding data integrity and confidentiality. These legacy protocols possess known vulnerabilities that expose systems to exploitation, undermining modern security standards. Transitioning to TLS 1.2 and 1.3 ensures adherence to robust cryptographic practices and aligns with industry best practices.

Notably, leading technology companies have already taken decisive action quite some time ago:

Browser Vendors:
    - Major browsers like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge have discontinued support for TLS 1.0 and 1.1. This shift, largely completed by 2020, reflects a commitment to secure web browsing.
Microsoft:
    - Microsoft has made strong moves to remove these older TLS protocols from their operating systems.4 They have announced that future Windows releases will not support TLS 1.0 and 1.1, and they have also removed support from many of their online services like Microsoft 365. This is a very important move for the security of the Windows ecosystem.
Other Companies:
    - Many other companies that provide online services have also made changes to remove support for the older TLS protocols

These actions by industry leaders underscore the imperative to adopt modern TLS protocols. Discontinuing support for outdated versions minimizes attack vectors and strengthens the overall security posture.
